Learn about Islam
Islam is the declared choice or inheritance for some thousand million people. The word Islam means peace through submission to God. Followers of Islam are known as Muslims. People from all races, backgrounds, cultures and countries embrace it.

Islam teaches the worship of one God - known as Allah. It follows the traditions of Abraham (peace be upon him) and so shares much with Christianity and Judaism. Indeed Muslims revere Moses (pbuh) and Jesus (pbuh) as true and great prophets but believe that their original teachings and scriptures have been lost, misinterpreted or altered. The Qur'an states that Allah sent many prophets to many people throughout the ages. Their teachings were revealed in the context of the development and environment of humankind - all were prophets of Islam.

Muhammad (pbuh) was the last of Allah's prophets. Through him came The Qur'an (the Holy Book) and the Hadith (sayings of the Prophet himself). The Qur'an is Allah's final revelation to humankind.

Muslims of Britain
Many people know that Muslims lived in Europe, in Spain and in the Balkans for several centuries. And in fact many commentators have highlighted the part played by European contact with the then much advanced Muslim civilisation that resulted in the Renaissance and Enlightenment. But it may surprise some to know that the history of Muslims in Britain also goes back all the way to the 8th century (common era).
