Live A Better Life

YM18Over the weekend 75 young people (12-16years) from all over the country (London, Luton, Birmingham, Manchester, Halifax, Leicester, Liverpool and more) gathered together in the heart of  beautiful Shropshire to learn more about Islam, develop their character, make friends, work as a team, build self-esteem and get closer to God.

The weekend was jam-packed with spiritual reminders, Qur’an memorisation, prayers in congregation, alongside high energy activities such as climbing/abseiling, zip wire, high ropes, archery and a challenge course. There were workshops such as quilling, creative writing, presentation skills, team building and sports.

Saturday night ended with stories, songs and dhikr around a campfire, followed by the young people themselves showing off their skills and talents in a ‘Talent Show’.

The group enjoyed debating, exploring ‘sticky situations’, had a panel discussion, and learnt how to ‘Make no excuses!! And live a better Life!’

YM9They left enthused and invigorated. In the closing session, two 14 year old boys touched the organisers with this feedback:
“before this residential we were starting to move away from Islam, but this weekend has changed all of that for us. We can’t wait for the next one!”

Finally a Mum left her 15 year old at the event on Friday night, telling the organisers that he probably wouldn’t talk to many people or join in with activities. Within 20 minutes of the programme he was laughing and joking with new friends he had made….when his Mum came back to pick him up on Sunday, she cried with joy and thanked the organisers for making her son happier than she’d seen him in months!

The biggest criticism from the participants?

“It wasn’t long enough!!!!”

More comments from the young people:

‘This Muslim event is the best! Thank you staff…wow!’

‘Wow it was epic!’

‘The talks, reflections and debate really inspired me and made me think about myself with deeper meaning’

“Glad I came, really good, would definitely come again!

“What a great experience!
